Bye for now.

September 10th, 2008

As of September 2008, Girls with Big Cameras is going on hiatus and is no longer accepting appointments.  Thank you to all of our wonderful fans.

The Girls would like to thank all of our friends, family and customers for their overwhelmingly positive support over the past year.  It’s been a joy and privilege to serve the community.  It has also been an amazing opportunity for the three of us to grow as artists, photographers, and business people.

Our email, withbigcameras@gmail.com will remain open for questions, comments and referrals or if you’d like to contact one of the girls.  Again, thank you for supporting our venture!

Following a race car driver - Ryan and Luci

April 29th, 2008

The shoot from this past weekend was for another one of Ted’s co-workers (like Doug) - Ryan and his fiance Luci. Ryan is a weekend race car driver - and it was serious business trying to follow this guy ;p

Another interesting twist to this shoot was that Luci had to come face to face with her great fear - worms! Ryan was carrying her here so she could be “safe”

Should I say… Ryan took full advantage of this opportunity?

I love this one..

And this one..

L2 and I had to utilize the precious time in between Luci checking the wall for worms.. I think it worked out pretty well though.

And I’ll leave you with a “DC pride” picture…

Exploring Annapolis - Emily and Liam

April 14th, 2008

So where do I start? Back in November when I posted an ad on weddingbee, Emily beat all records in the world and replied within 3 minutes. Being an avid weddingbee reader, it just reconfirmed to me how popular of a blog it was. With that, I introduce to you one of the “bees” - Miss Tiramisu!

We give her mad props for the smiles despite the cold weather and rain

And I introduce to you…Mr. Tiramisu

These jumping pictures turned out fantastic - almost every shot was blog-worthy.

Outside of McGarvey’s - one of Emily and Liam’s favorite restaurants in Annapolis!

I couldn’t get over these cute fire hydrants and got a little carried away ;p There must have been at least 20 pictures with fire hydrants in them. Not your typical engagement picture subject?

This one cracked me up - the background looks so fake and so real at the same time.

Claire and I had a great time in Annapolis - we even stayed after to enjoy some fresh calamari at McGarvey’s..mmMMMMmm!! Thanks Emily and Liam for introducing us to such a cute spot for photography!

Claira Craile

April 4th, 2008

I just realized that I never posted pictures from this Leesburg outing Craile posted about a while ago.

This was the first time I saw her Crumpler bag.. and I was totally jealous (then I bought one myself so I could be cool too)

Craile insisted on trying this whole “I take pictures while you squat and look up” thing.. I think it worked really well - but I have yet to work up the courage to ask a client to strike up this awkward-looking pose

This one Craile will yell at me and I’ll have to take down as soon as she sees it… so enjoy it while you can!
**as predicted.. it’s gone now!

Doug and Pam - long overdue!

April 2nd, 2008

I can’t believe how much I slacked off posting about this session. I was really nervous about this since they were early advocates of this blog and the big cameras - so we remedied that by taking way too many photos ;p

Doug is Ted’s co-worker and is super hilarious, and Pam has the best laugh ever. I just had to say that - they’re the cutest couple.

<a mce_thref=
Can you believe we found this? I put my new wide-angle lens to work on this one..

This one might look familiar.. ALMOST the same as Claire’s picture here

They changed outfit to show support for the Red Skins ;p

Gwynne and Chris..part II

April 2nd, 2008

Tag-ons to L2’s post below..

My favorite picture of the day - edited in iphoto - I’m not sure how Apple came up with such a wonderful low-end photo editing software. It’s so hard for me to move on!

This one is very “popular” according to flickr.. although I know L2 would say it looks like the Washington monument is sticking out of Chris’ neck….

Dogs need attention too

But perhaps too much attention?

I have to say these two were way excited about.. everything. I really like photo sessions with pets - I think it brings so much life and relaxes the people being photographed.

I know you miss the jumping shots..

Okay last 2 I promise..

Love this one..so cute

January 23rd, 2008

I showed my flickr to my mom last night.

Me: What do you think of the pictures?
Mom: They’re okay.
Me:*somewhat disappointed* Just okay?
Mom: Yeah, except for this one, and this one - I like these.

So I’m posting those two that passed the “mom test” - a.k.a brutal honesty.

This one got a seal of approval because of the positioning of Lisa and Rick.

This one because of composition. Although I have to say - it’s time for me to move onto a more professional photo editing software than iphoto.  What the heck is up with this way-too-much black frame around the corners?

Lynda and Jonathan’s engagement session

January 9th, 2008

Lynda and Jonathan was the first couple who we *successfully had a session with out of everyone who answered our weddingbee classified ad.  We had to cancel 2 earlier sessions because of bad weather.  So to make up for it all - this past Sunday was BEAUTIFUL.  I mean - warm, sunny, the whole package.  We went to Old Town Alexandria - what a fantastic place for pictures!

I heart trees

Lynda wore a red coat (and red shoes to match)- which turned out beautifully in all the pictures - good choice!

Whatever she was saying, he was happy to hear it.  They were hilarious throughout the photoshoot.  Lynda kept saying things like “hey you’ve got nose in your hair!”

Aren’t they cute? oh and I heart walls - especially stoney ones.  Really, one of my own engagement photos looks like this - and yes I asked for it.

Okay so seriously - I think I’ve found my MVP jumpers.

Lynda really wanted to bring this one home, we had no idea why ;p

Jonathan was such a good sport - he would pick Lynda up when we did and didn’t ask - and he would stay there! I thought he was a professional.

Thanks to you guys, we have ventured (photographically, if that’s a word) into Old Town Alexandria!

Ava is more than a boy!

December 12th, 2007

This past weekend L2 and I did a run-around-chasing-after-Ava portrait session for Vanessa’s *almost 1-year-old baby. Ava apparently was tagged “more than a boy” for her active inner-athlete already coming through. It was quite a challenge to get her facing the camera even slightly - because she was constantly on the move. Here are some sample shots - more to come later!

As a very responsible mom, Vanessa prepared 3 outfits for Ava, all of them were ridiculously cute. L2 was joking that Ava looked like a drunk santa walking around with a bottle in her hands ;p

It’s Korean tradition to wear Hanbok on the first birthday, so here goes Ava. In the end she kept tripping on her oversized dress and the open-back skirt kept exposing her bottom, so Vanessa rescued her out of the dress… into the Chinese outfit

This picture was cleverly named “crouching baby, hidden dragon” by Ted the fiance. So fitting!

The power of weddingbee

November 21st, 2007

Who knew we could get “business” so fast?

I posted on weddingbee’s classifieds board yesterday before leaving work about a free engagement/family portrait session since Craile was getting all anxious about setting up our next photoshoot. Within 20 minutes, we got our first response! This is when I went back to the post and put the “3 couples/families” limit since we’re all full-time professionals and I didn’t want to overwhelm ourselves.

This morning when I came into work, there were 5 more! Who knew that people actually read the classified portion of weddingbee? I also went to our Google Analytics page and our pageview went skyrocketed!

With that said… the three of us need to get together and make a couple decisions:

1) Do we take everyone? or just 3 couples?

2) Are we ready to do weddings? (one girl asked about the potential in her E-mail)

3) Do we do outdoor sessions when it’s blazing cold outside in the winter? Or do we wait till the spring?

Thanks for reading! And keep posted….

This was Craile at our photo safari workshop in DC, doesn’t she look professional?

Next I tag L2 for a post on the Light the Night event we all volunteered at…
